Nokia E55 Theme Review: Solstice by PiZero

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Again it is time for a PiZero theme review. This time around the theme is called Solstice and is free in contrast to the last few PiZero themes I reviewed. Solstice is PiZero’s newest theme and has a touch of nature to it.

The good thing with PiZeros works are that he really pays attention to the S60 Editions while making the themes. This way they fit both the newest S60 5th Edition devices and the older S60 3rd Edition devices very well.

Now let us talk about the actual theme. Solstice is very nature centric because of its background/ wallpaper. The background is a picture of grass and a blue sky with white clouds. The focus of the picture is on the grass and the sky is just blurred out. Not only are the colors sky blue and grass green present on the background but they can also be found in the menus.

There is no taskbar on the home screen. The main font color is white and the battery and status bars are also white but the battery icon is black since it wouldn’t be visible otherwise because of the white clouds. The secondary font color is in a sky blue just like the background of the pop-up menus. Icons in the menu are indicated by a white square field with rounded edges. There is also a secondary indication field which is grass green.

Like with all PiZero themes Solstice comes with a lite version. The theme fits both landscape and portrait mode very well which is pretty important since almost all the new phones have an accelerometer.

To get the theme just visit the PiZero website.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Nokia Neon Noise

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Nokia Neon Noise is a S60 theme created by Yan Flahorn. Neon Noise is supposed to be a lifestyle theme and looks quite nice. The theme consists of grey, black and neon green colors.

nokia neon noise by flahorn Nokia E55 Theme Review: Nokia Neon Noise The theme background/ wallpaper represents broken grey and at some points almost black asphalt with neon green graffiti like patterns on it. Those neon green patterns look really nice and refreshing. Most of them are circles with white circle parts in them which then are placed very closely together. Around those circle patterns there are some color stains which are also in neon green. Near the bottom the asphalt fades to a pitch black.

The font color is white which is very well visible both in contrast to the background and the neon green. Of course the battery and status bars are also in white. The primary indication field is slightly transparent and in neon green like you would expect it to be. A stronger shade of neon green is also used as the secondary font color which isn’t transparent.

Flahorn also overworked the music player to fit Neon Noise better. The media buttons (e.g. play, skip, stop etc.) are now in green and white.

Overall this theme is a nice alternation to the themes that I reviewed so far. It doesn’t have a really innovative concept since the circle like patterns are known to many of us already but the integration and the colors used give this theme somewhat of an individual look.

Like with every Flahorn theme you can download it over at his Deviantart page.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: The Zen Series

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

zens1 Nokia E55 Theme Review: The Zen Series The Zen Series is a series of PiZero premium themes which contains three individual themes. The three themes included in this pack are Zen Fire, Zen Violet and Zen Aqua. The names derive from the main colors of the themes. Besides the colors the themes hardly differ from each other.

Let us start with the Zen Fire Theme. The color of the background image is a fierce red. On the right bottom corner the red is lighter. It looks like as if a light is emitting at that spot. Therefore the other side of the theme is in a darker red. The menu bar on the home screen is a silvery white just like the clock and the battery and status bars. This color is also used as the main font color. In the main menu the indication field is not surprisingly also in this color. The secondary font color is the same fierce red that can be found on the background image and pop up windows.

The Aqua is identical to the Fire theme. The only difference is the background color and secondary font color which is an aqua blue. The Violet theme has violet as its background and secondary font color and misses the silvery white menu bar that the Aqua and Fire themes have.

Overall these themes have a very professional look. All the themes of this series are very detailed making them look like an original Nokia theme. And that is exactly how it should be when it comes to premium themes. After all you have to pay €7,99 for these three themes. You can also buy these individually but then each one will cost €4,99. The Zen Series is available at the PiZero website.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Deep Purple by Adelino

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

deep purple 300x300 Nokia E55 Theme Review: Deep Purple by AdelinoDeep Purple is created by Adelino who is one of the more professional S60 theme creators out there. He has created many themes for S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and 2 but his themes also support the original 3rd Edition (3.0).

Deep Purple has a very dark background which has a purple shade to it. The background looks like as if it shows steps. The clock on the home screen is square with round edges. It has a glossy black color. The battery and status bars are in purple. Each bar seems to have a slightly different shade of purple.

The font color used in this theme is white. There is no secondary font color since the white is visible both in the black and purple parts of the theme. This theme comes with over 550 3rd party icons. They have the same design as the clock frame from the home screen. The icons are also glossy and most of them are only in the colors of black and white unlike the indication frame in the menus which is colored in purple. This purple has also a fading effect but the fading starts almost at the bottom of the frame. Deep Purple also changes the calculator button design so that they look more like the icons in the menus.

This theme looks quite nice but for me the deep purple has a too strong contrast in combination to the almost black backgrounds. To download this theme please visit the Adelino Themes Webpage.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Ruby v2 by PiZero

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

ru 235x300 Nokia E55 Theme Review: Ruby v2 by PiZeroI already motioned that from now on I would review some premium themes from PiZero. This one is called Ruby v2. The themes name comes from its strong ruby red color which looks pretty awesome. Ruby’s home screen and menu background is ruby red with many lighter red wavy lines going through it. The lines are lighter in the middle and fade into the ruby red color of the background. Some other noticeable things on the home screen are the silvery battery and status bars and the simple analog clock. The main font color used in this theme is white which is very well visible because of the good contrast between the ruby red and white. Ruby red is also the secondary font color which becomes visible when you highlight icons, options, settings etc.

The secondary font color fits perfectly to the main color of the indication field which highlights the icons and such. Therefore the secondary indication field color is like the secondary font color. But the secondary indication field seems to have a darker ruby red. The scroll bar is also in the silvery white. Overall everything seems to harmony very well in this theme. It doesn’t have any complicated elements which gives it an unique look.

This theme is available at PiZeros website for 4,99€ which is a little too expensive for my taste since at the end of the day it still is a theme. If you really like the premium themes you should by one of the theme packs. This should save you some euros.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Pulsar by PiZero Design

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Up until now I always reviewed PiZeros free themes. In favor of those who are willing to pay some euros for a great theme I will now start to review some of PiZeros premium themes once in a while. Let us start with his newest premium theme, Pulsar. Since PiZero always releases a demo of his premium themes I had the opportunity to test Pulsar on my Samsung i8910 HD. Even though it isn’t fully intended for this device it worked quite well. So I doubt there will be any problems on the regular S60 3rd Edition phones. The test version has watermarks on the main background marking it as a demo.

pulsar 3rd Nokia E55 Theme Review: Pulsar by PiZero Design

The background image contains many shades of blue, violet, magenta and red. The colors create a shining effect just like an actual pulsar. At the top and bottom the image is pitch black. Overall the image looks very good especially if you have the screen brightness set to maximum.

The analog clock on the home screen is colored in a very dark grayish silver. Another interesting thing on the home screen is the pink battery icon. The main font color used is white and the secondary is black. The indicating field as well the scroll bar is colored in metallic white. Of course the theme fits both landscape and portrait mode very well since that has been the case with PiZeros themes for quite some time now.

The “full” theme costs 3,99€ and is available at the Ovi Store where PiZero Design is a premium publisher. You can also get it at the PiZero website.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Music by Kimi

Friday, June 5th, 2009

music Nokia E55 Theme Review: Music by KimiHere is another review of a Kimi theme. This one is called Music. The main colors used in Music are white, grey and black. This is a very nice combination since the colors complement each other just perfectly. Music comes with 130+ third party Touch Icons and 34 special folders. The default wallpaper shows a black electronic guitar which is surrounded by black patterns. Beside the guitar the word “music” is written in black and yellow with a 3D effect. The middle of the main menu background is white. From the middle of the background grey stripes are running in every direction. The guitar and the word “music” also have this background.

The main font color is black therefore the status bar and battery indicator is also in black but the bars are curved upwards and are not straight like in the most themes. The home screen clock is colored in a glossy black and white. The color of the main indication field is glossy grayish white. That of the secondary indication field is black. Besides the Touch Icons this theme doesn’t have much color but still looks quite well and the most important thing, everything is readable. Like PiZeros themes this one also has a lite version which is three times smaller in size than the full version.

You can get this theme and many more over at Kimis website. Kimi doesn’t only make S60 3rd Edition themes but also Sony Ericsson, S60 2nd Edition and S60 5th Edition themes.
