Nokia E55 Theme Review: Solstice by PiZero

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Again it is time for a PiZero theme review. This time around the theme is called Solstice and is free in contrast to the last few PiZero themes I reviewed. Solstice is PiZero’s newest theme and has a touch of nature to it.

The good thing with PiZeros works are that he really pays attention to the S60 Editions while making the themes. This way they fit both the newest S60 5th Edition devices and the older S60 3rd Edition devices very well.

featsuolt Nokia E55 Theme Review: Solstice by PiZero

Now let us talk about the actual theme. Solstice is very nature centric because of its background/ wallpaper. The background is a picture of grass and a blue sky with white clouds. The focus of the picture is on the grass and the sky is just blurred out. Not only are the colors sky blue and grass green present on the background but they can also be found in the menus.

There is no taskbar on the home screen. The main font color is white and the battery and status bars are also white but the battery icon is black since it wouldn’t be visible otherwise because of the white clouds. The secondary font color is in a sky blue just like the background of the pop-up menus. Icons in the menu are indicated by a white square field with rounded edges. There is also a secondary indication field which is grass green.

Like with all PiZero themes Solstice comes with a lite version. The theme fits both landscape and portrait mode very well which is pretty important since almost all the new phones have an accelerometer.

To get the theme just visit the PiZero website.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Deep Purple by Adelino

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

deep purple 300x300 Nokia E55 Theme Review: Deep Purple by AdelinoDeep Purple is created by Adelino who is one of the more professional S60 theme creators out there. He has created many themes for S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and 2 but his themes also support the original 3rd Edition (3.0).

Deep Purple has a very dark background which has a purple shade to it. The background looks like as if it shows steps. The clock on the home screen is square with round edges. It has a glossy black color. The battery and status bars are in purple. Each bar seems to have a slightly different shade of purple.

The font color used in this theme is white. There is no secondary font color since the white is visible both in the black and purple parts of the theme. This theme comes with over 550 3rd party icons. They have the same design as the clock frame from the home screen. The icons are also glossy and most of them are only in the colors of black and white unlike the indication frame in the menus which is colored in purple. This purple has also a fading effect but the fading starts almost at the bottom of the frame. Deep Purple also changes the calculator button design so that they look more like the icons in the menus.

This theme looks quite nice but for me the deep purple has a too strong contrast in combination to the almost black backgrounds. To download this theme please visit the Adelino Themes Webpage.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Pulsar by PiZero Design

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Up until now I always reviewed PiZeros free themes. In favor of those who are willing to pay some euros for a great theme I will now start to review some of PiZeros premium themes once in a while. Let us start with his newest premium theme, Pulsar. Since PiZero always releases a demo of his premium themes I had the opportunity to test Pulsar on my Samsung i8910 HD. Even though it isn’t fully intended for this device it worked quite well. So I doubt there will be any problems on the regular S60 3rd Edition phones. The test version has watermarks on the main background marking it as a demo.

pulsar 3rd Nokia E55 Theme Review: Pulsar by PiZero Design

The background image contains many shades of blue, violet, magenta and red. The colors create a shining effect just like an actual pulsar. At the top and bottom the image is pitch black. Overall the image looks very good especially if you have the screen brightness set to maximum.

The analog clock on the home screen is colored in a very dark grayish silver. Another interesting thing on the home screen is the pink battery icon. The main font color used is white and the secondary is black. The indicating field as well the scroll bar is colored in metallic white. Of course the theme fits both landscape and portrait mode very well since that has been the case with PiZeros themes for quite some time now.

The “full” theme costs 3,99€ and is available at the Ovi Store where PiZero Design is a premium publisher. You can also get it at the PiZero website.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Music by Kimi

Friday, June 5th, 2009

music Nokia E55 Theme Review: Music by KimiHere is another review of a Kimi theme. This one is called Music. The main colors used in Music are white, grey and black. This is a very nice combination since the colors complement each other just perfectly. Music comes with 130+ third party Touch Icons and 34 special folders. The default wallpaper shows a black electronic guitar which is surrounded by black patterns. Beside the guitar the word “music” is written in black and yellow with a 3D effect. The middle of the main menu background is white. From the middle of the background grey stripes are running in every direction. The guitar and the word “music” also have this background.

The main font color is black therefore the status bar and battery indicator is also in black but the bars are curved upwards and are not straight like in the most themes. The home screen clock is colored in a glossy black and white. The color of the main indication field is glossy grayish white. That of the secondary indication field is black. Besides the Touch Icons this theme doesn’t have much color but still looks quite well and the most important thing, everything is readable. Like PiZeros themes this one also has a lite version which is three times smaller in size than the full version.

You can get this theme and many more over at Kimis website. Kimi doesn’t only make S60 3rd Edition themes but also Sony Ericsson, S60 2nd Edition and S60 5th Edition themes.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Mono by PiZero

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

If you read my previous reviews of PiZeros S60 themes then you should know by now that I am a big fan of his works. This is because his themes are plain awesome, some more than the others. This one which I’m presenting to you now is called Mono. I don’t like it as much as his previous themes because the main theme color is just not my taste. But just because I don’t like it much doesn’t mean that I will contain myself to write something about this theme.

mono3rd Nokia E55 Theme Review: Mono by PiZeroThe main theme color is somewhat of a “bluish grey” (don’t really know what to call it). The wallpaper has many thin lines going through it which seem to start on the middle of the left side and spread over to the complete right side causing a small visual illusion. Those lines are slightly brighter than the wallpaper.

The toolbar in the home screen is in an off white color. The same color is used as the icon surrounding and as the indicating color in the main menus. They all have a shadowy/ glossy effect.

A simple white serves as the main font color. The secondary font color is the weird “bluish grey”. The simple looking analog clock on the home screen is also in white as you would expect it to be.

This theme comes with PiZeros and Jandells icon packs. Like most of PiZeros themes this one also has a lite version with default icons and fits both landscape and portrait mode very well.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: DarkStar by PiZero

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Here is another PiZero theme review. This one is called DarkStar. It is a dark theme with a beautiful background image/ wallpaper. The whole theme looks great once it is installed on your phone.

dst09 Nokia E55 Theme Review: DarkStar by PiZeroLet’s start with the wallpaper. On the bottom third of the wallpaper there are some silhouettes of houses (not too sure about it). A long tree without any leaves is seen in the middle of the image. Behind the tree is a huge “DarkStar” which looks more like an overgrown moon. Only a small part of the actual star is visible in the wallpaper. Aside from the “DarkStar” and the grey sky everything is black.

The clock on the homescreen looks really nice because of its grey color in combination with a glossy effect. Once you enter the main menu you will notice that there is somewhat of a blurred layer over the wallpaper. This way the icons are better visible. The icons included are Hybrid PiZero icons and the Touch icons.

The primary font color is white which is very appropriate for a dark theme. The secondary color is grey. The color of the indicating field is white. Everything is easily readable including the calendar. The background color of the calendar is a really dark grey with the digits and days being presented in white.

This theme has also a lite version. The difference between the full version and this is that the lite version has the default Nokia icons. Download it over at PiZeros website like usual.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Zune Themes Vol.1 by Flahorn

Monday, May 25th, 2009

zune themes vol 1 by flahorn 458x1023 Nokia E55 Theme Review: Zune Themes Vol.1 by FlahornLet me present you a series of Flahorn themes which are all identical to each other except for their main wallpaper/ background image. The last theme I reviewed from Flahorn was the Touch theme which was inspired by the Nokia 5800 XM. This new series of themes were inspired by Microsoft’s PMP, the Zune. The Zunes brand logo is colored in orange and pink which fade into each other. Therefore these colors appear at least once in every menu. May it be as an icon color or as a frame color.

The Zune Themes Vol.1 is made of three themes. They are called Phyta, Everglade and Organica. Phyta’s wallpaper/ background image contains the colors pink, a very light orange and a strong white. The image also contains a white flower pattern which is visible in the pink parts. The Everglade wallpaper has a strong white color as well in combination with an olive-green which is fading in some parts of the image. Lastly the Organica wallpaper starts with a grey pattern at the top and fades very fast into the usual white.

Flahorn used an improved version of his S60 Prototype Icons. Most of them have a glossy effect now. The main font color is black and the secondary one is a shade of “dark beige”. The distinctive Zune color (orange to pink) is used as the color of the clock, the indication frame and in the calculator.

These themes are really nice and you don’t have to be a Zune fan to appreciate them. To download them visit Flahorn at Deviantart.

E55 Theme Review: Pure White/ Pure Black by PiZero

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Pure White and Pure Black are some of my most used themes. They are almost the same. The only difference is the main theme color. I really like simple themes like these. They feel light and are not crammed with colors and icons. Like the name says this double theme feels really pure the white on more so than the black.

pure wb copy E55 Theme Review: Pure White/ Pure Black by PiZeroLet’s start with the white one. The default wallpaper is plain white without any patterns or anything of that sort. It fades to a really light grey near the top and the bottom. The battery and the reception bar are in black. The clock on the home screen is the same as in the previous PiZero theme I reviewed. The difference is that it is white now. The primary font color is black and the secondary is a dark grey. The indicating colors in the menus are also in a dark grey with a glossy effect. Appointments in calendar are indicated with red color other than that everything in the calendar is in different shades of grey.

The black version has a black wallpaper. The clock, the battery and the reception bar are also in black but with a strong glossy effect. The indicating color is the same as that of the white one. The font color is white. Other than that there are no differences between these two themes.

Both themes come with the PiZero and Flahorn Icon Packs. Because of their simplicity both themes fit landscape mode pretty well.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Black Grid by Kimi

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Here is another interesting s60 3rd Edition theme. It is created by Kimi a popular theme creator. Kimi’s recent themes mostly involve flower and wave like patterns. Most of the time they are based on different shades of only one color. In combination of the colors and patterns the themes mostly feel a bit relaxing. But the Black Grid seems to be one of the exceptions. Though this theme still looks very good.

black grid Nokia E55 Theme Review: Black Grid by Kimi

This theme is pretty dark but because of the nice contrast between the black background and the white font color everything is perfectly readable. The default wallpaper of this theme is a black grid which fades from the bottom to the top until there is no grid visible at the top. This actually has a nice effect since the white home screen icons, the clock, status bar etc. are clearly visible and don’t interfere with the grid. Besides that you will find the wallpaper throughout all the menus of the phone.

The analog clock on the home screen has a fitting look. The middle part is in a glossy black while the place around the hour indicators are white.

The glossy black also reappears as the indicating color in all of the menus. This theme comes with 150 icons and 28 special folders giving the theme a somewhat unique look. The wallpaper, font color and the icons are a perfect match for each other. If you like dark themes which have good contrast this theme might be something for you.

Nokia E55 Theme Review: Touch by Flahorn

kopie von touch by flahorn Nokia E55 Theme Review: Touch by Flahorn

I recently stumbled over this beautiful theme for S60 3rd Edition FP1 and FP2 devices which is simply called Touch. It was created by Yan Flahorn and it seems like his main focus was to get this theme to look as close to the original Nokia 5800 theme as possible.

This theme comes in two colors red and blue. The default wallpaper is black with red or blue vertical, wavelike lines just like the original 5800 themes default wallpaper. Actually, this theme is a perfect copy of the Nokia 5800 theme just in a lower resolution.

There are about 600 icons in this theme. Icons for popular S60 applications are also included in those. And as you would expect, the icons are a carbon copy of our favorite Nokia touchscreen phone. With this many icons most of your favorite apps won’t look like as if they are out of place.

touch red copy Nokia E55 Theme Review: Touch by Flahorn

The background of the menus are in a simple black just like you would expect it to be if you are familiar with the 5800. The white font colors complete the simple and clean appearance of this theme. Battery and reception bar are in grey just like the date indicator on the home screen. The analog clock on the home screen is also pretty nice. It is grey at the top and fades slowly to black near the bottom. The simple design continues in the calender. Numbers in white indicate the current month and those in grey the previous or upcoming month.

The only difference between the blue and red version of this theme are the indicating colors while browsing the menus of your phone.

After spending a little bit time with this theme I was really surprised at how flawless it actually seems to be. The icons seem to fit and the font and background colors are perfectly in sync.
